Lynbrook shooting: Man shot in a car while stopped at traffic lights in Melbourne

A man has been rushed to hospital after he was shot in a car while waiting at traffic lights in Melbourne.

Shots were fired into the car near the corner of Commercial Dr and South Gippsland Hwy in Lynbrook in the city’s south-east about 8.30pm on Wednesday night.

It remains unclear whether the man was driving or a passenger in the car. 

A family member drove the injured man to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Detectives are investigating whether an Audi found alight 18km away on Boundary Road, Narre Warren almost an hour later is linked to the shooting.

The car fire is being treated as suspicious.

 Armed Crime Squad detectives have launched an investigation into the shooting the car fire.

‘The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined at this stage,’ a police statement read.

No arrests have yet been made.
