A 6.1 magnitude aftershock hits the coast of eastern Taiwan

Taipei, April 27 / WAM / An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan on Saturday morning.

Media outlets quoted the Central Meteorological Administration in Taiwan as saying that the quake was an aftershock of the main Hualien earthquake, which struck the region on April 3 and claimed the lives of at least 18 people, noting that Taiwan had witnessed, as of this morning, 1,303 aftershocks since the Hualien earthquake. The intensity of six aftershocks reached at least 6 degrees and 63 between 5 and 6 degrees.
