Igor Kolomoisky was accused of organizing a contract murder

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine informed businessman Igor Kolomoisky that he is suspected of organizing a contract killing.

In reports from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor’s office, the name of the suspect is not disclosed. In a message from the prosecutor’s office, he named a well-known businessman, and in the police report – an oligarch.

On the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs published a photograph of the suspect with a retouched face, but Kolomoisky can be recognized in the photograph.

According to investigators, the suspect ordered the murder of the director of a law firm more than 20 years ago. The prosecution claims that the businessman ordered the murder of the lawyer because he refused to invalidate the decision of the general meeting of shareholders of one of the companies.

The police statement said that the attempt occurred in August 2003 in Feodossia. Four attackers beat and stabbed the lawyer, but he survived. Then law enforcement agencies detained the perpetrators of the assassination attempt. They received six to 12 years in prison. The police claim to have received irrefutable evidence of the identity of the customer.

• Igor Kolomoisky is one of the richest people in Ukraine, former governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Since March 2021, he and his family have been under US sanctions.
• Since September last year, Kolomoisky has been in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center. He was first accused of transferring about $12.5 billion abroad between 2013 and 2020. Later, the businessman was charged with two more charges in the case of illegal seizure of $233 million from Privatbank. Kolomoisky denied the accusations.
• Kolomoisky was named one of the sponsors of Vladimir Zelensky’s presidential campaign in 2019. Subsequently, the President of Ukraine began to speak rather harshly about Kolomoisky.
