Man United will let star leave on a permanent deal this summer after being left frustrated after being frozen out amid competition for places following the rise of Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United will opt to sell one of their biggest names this summer, rather than letting them leave on a free contract in 2025, according to a new report.

Erik ten Hag has been trying to juggle his squad in the right way as they look to fight their way into a Champions League spot, and go one step further than their FA Cup final defeat last summer.

However, there are set to be changes to personnel in the off-season, as players who are frustrated with their lack of game time under ten Hag look to find new clubs.

The Mirror reports that Christian Eriksen will be allowed to leave the club on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

During the international break, the Danish star admitted he was frustrated with his lack of game time, playing just 37 minutes of Man United’s past seven Premier League games, coming into Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Brentford, where Eriksen remained on the bench against his former club.

He has fallen behind Kobbie Mainoo in the pecking order at Old Trafford, and with the 18-year-old star set to sign a long-term deal at the club, it looks like Eriksen’s time is running short.

Eriksen has raised his issue over game time with ten Hag,saying: ‘I have previously stated that I am not satisfied with not playing, but it’s not something that keeps me up at night.

‘I have had a conversation with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible, but I am available and need to be available for the team, which I am and always will be.

‘He said it was the team he had chosen, and is doing well, and the rest of the midfield is also performing well, so there is competition for places, which is expected when playing for a top club. There is great competition within the team.’

The belief is that the future of Manchester United can be centred around Mainoo under the new team led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which leaves the 32-year-old at a crossroads with the club.

His deal runs until 2025, and it is thought that Manchester United will sell Eriksen on a permanent deal if the right offer comes in for the Dane, which would be profit for the Red Devils, after snapping Eriksen up as a free agent.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are thought to be keen on Eriksen’s services, whilst he has prior Premier League experience with Spurs and Brentford, and could be encouraged to remain in English football.
