Broadway star Jason Cardoza mugged in Dunkin for $9 by perp pretending to have a gun in his pocket

Broadway star Jason Cardoza was robbed at a Dunkin on Easter Sunday in Manhattan.

This is the second time in one day a Broadway actor was robbed in New York.

Cardoza is currently playing Young Noah in the Broadway adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel ‘The Notebook.’

Around 1:45 pm at 356 West 145th Street, Cardoza was held up by the suspect, who stole a wallet with $9 inside after he pretended to have a gun in his pocket.

The actor detailed the incident on his Instagram Stories, claiming the suspect has begged for cash.

‘I offered to buy him lunch because I didn’t have any cash on me, and it escalated from there very quickly,’ the post read.

While Cardoza claimed he was ‘held at gunpoint’ by the suspect, police informed DailyMail.com that the suspect did not have a weapon. Instead, police confirmed the suspect used his hand to ‘simulate’ that he had a gun inside his pocket.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified, fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

‘I am fine, ultimately he didn’t make off with anything irreplaceable,’ Cardoza said in the post.

Cardoza lost his ID, two visas, an insurance card, and $9, per the police.

The actor performed in the Easter matinee show of ‘The Notebook’ after the encounter. 

‘I was grateful to have a place to head immediately after (the robbery) full of people I love, to do work that I love. So I’ve been in good hands,’ his post read.

‘It makes me sad to think people are as desperate as this – and it makes me sad to feel a need alert anyone to this kind of activity.

‘But it’s the world we’re living in, and if you’re like me, you already are careful and you don’t think it’s going to happen to you until it’s staring you in the face.’

The Broadway star then confirmed in a second Instagram Story that the suspect had tried using his credit card in various shops around the area.

‘I wouldn’t want anyone caught off guard in these places that we all frequent,’ he said.

In a third post, Cardoza thanked his followers for the outpouring of support and concern. 

‘I live in New York and these things sadly happen more often than we think and I didn’t anticipate this going so far beyond my personal story here,’ he said.

‘I wanted to bring attention to some friends, and to anyone who lives in the area to be careful because it really does sneak up on you and I don’t know where that guy is now. I want people to be well and alert.’

The police said the investigation is ongoing.
