'Always sucks': The Rock lifts lid on wrestling return

PHILADELPHIA: For the first time since 2013, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back in WWE and at the very top of the card once again.

The multi-time world champion and Hollywood megastar has taken the pro wrestling world by storm heading into WrestleMania 40, returning in February and immediately inserting himself into the company’s main event scene.

The Rock will team up with his cousin Roman Reigns at the WWE’s annual extravaganza in a huge clash with modern-day stars Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

In an interview with ESPN, he explained how preparing for his first proper match in over a decade was “like riding a bike” as he looks to further cement his legacy.

“Suplexes, a launch off the top rope, a catch, like bodies hitting bodies … it’s things like that that you have to do and have to prepare for,” he said.

“You’re getting bruised up, you’re hitting the ropes. It comes back fairly quick. … It’s like riding a bike. Fortunately for me, very lucky in that I became somewhat of a ring general where I see the circumference of the ring and where I need to be usually timing wise.

“Just putting in the work, training, the diet begins, which always sucks. And taking the falls and just getting my ass kicked every day. So, we’ll see how it goes.”

The Rock has leaned into a more villainous or ‘heel’ side of his personality since feuding with Rhodes and Rollins, throwing it back to his early-2000s days which saw him become a bonafide household name in wrestling and more broadly.
