Collaboration between the Aquarium and"Mohammed bin Zayed Fund"African Manatee Conservation Fund

ABU DHABI, 4 April / WAM / The Abu Dhabi National Aquarium received two African manatees in cooperation with the “Mohamed bin Zayed Fund for Species Conservation” and the “African Aquatic Conservation Fund” with the aim of activating environmental projects to preserve manatees by financing environmental initiatives and projects in Africa to protect African manatees and conduct the necessary studies on them to find the best ways to preserve this type of creature.

The two African manatees moved from their previous home in an aquarium in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, to the National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, becoming the first ambassadors for their species in the region, via a flight carried out in accordance with the highest international safety standards and medical protocols related to the transport and housing of various creatures, while taking all necessary measures. It is necessary to achieve this perfectly, as a team of specialists has been assigned to closely monitor the manatees throughout their transport journey from Korea to the UAE to ensure their safety at all stages of the journey.
The presence of the two African manatees at the National Aquarium provides a unique opportunity for the public to connect with these wonderful creatures on a personal level and learn about their types, which enhances appreciation of marine life and the importance of preserving it, and inspires visitors to become stewards and preservers of our oceans.

These creatures are extremely rare and can only be seen in a small number of environmental reserves around the world, and their home in the National Aquarium, which was designed with care and precision according to the highest international standards, is the closest to their original home in Africa.

In line with National Aquarium Abu Dhabi’s vision of promoting the preservation of the marine environment and raising awareness about endangered and endangered species, the Aquarium worked to build this joint cooperation with the African Aquarium Conservation Fund and the Mohammed bin Zayed Fund for the Conservation of Species.
The Aquarium also offers its visitors educational programs to educate and inspire the public about the necessity of preserving the marine environment with the aim of highlighting the importance of protecting our oceans and the diverse species that live in them.
