"Community Development" Organizing a session on the impact of social media platforms on the value system
ABU DHABI, 5 April / WAM / The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi organized a session entitled “The Impact of Social Media Platforms on the Value System in Society” as part of the community dialogue sessions organized by the Department periodically with the aim of engaging various segments of society to discuss social issues and priorities, which the Department determines in accordance with A scientific approach based on studies, questionnaires and other tools.
The session hosted a number of social content makers, in addition to specialists in the field of social studies, where the participants stressed the importance of the family’s role in protecting their children from the negative influence of social media platforms, as they represent the “front valve” for their children and are the first line of defense in the family, and therefore parents must Balancing between empowering their children with technology, spending quality time and developing their children’s skills and talents, in a way that contributes to creating a responsible generation that is aware of its role and responsibilities towards society and the nation.
The participants indicated that the impact of technology and social media platforms on societal values has both negative and positive aspects. This technology has greatly contributed to developing individuals’ skills, facilitating communication and introducing other cultures, and other benefits. However, due to its misuse and lack of proper use, it has led to changing individuals’ lifestyles and affected family and community cohesion and health as well.
The session reviewed a number of studies that show the increasing use of social media by teenagers, and the extent of young people’s awareness of the impact of social media platforms on societal values.
She touched on the responsibility that falls on content creators, as participants presented their experiences in creating positive, community and purposeful content, expressing their vision of the importance of creating useful content that benefits individuals, contributes to the development of their skills, and consolidates societal values that are passed down through generations.
