Our Olympic team begins its gathering in preparation for the Asian Cup and faces Indonesia in a friendly manner

Dubai, April 5, WAM / Yesterday, Thursday, our national Olympic football team began its internal gathering in Dubai in preparation for participating in the AFC U-23 Cup finals scheduled in Qatar during the period from April 15 to May 3, with the participation of 16 teams.

The teams were divided into four groups, and our team plays in the second group alongside the teams of Japan, South Korea, and China, and the first and second places from each group qualify for the quarter-finals.
The technical staff of our team, led by Uruguayan Marcelo Broli, chose 30 players for the initial list of this gathering, which will extend until the eighth of this month, and will include a friendly match against the Indonesian national team that is also participating in the tournament, where the technical staff will announce the final list, which includes 26 players, after the end of the match. Friendly.

The initial list includes: Hamad Abdullah Al-Muqbali, Rakan Walid Al-Menhali, Khaled Tawhid Muhammad, Saeed Salem Al-Muqadmi (goalkeepers), Khamis Ahmed Al-Mansouri, Ahmed Mal Allah Jumaa, Badr Nasser Abdulaziz, Mayed Ali Al-Taniji, Zayed Sultan Al-Zaabi, and Muhammad Abdul-Rahman Al-Mazmi. The first training session, which took place at Thiab Awana Stadium at the headquarters of the Football Association, was witnessed by Obaid Salem Al Shamsi, Second Vice President of the Federation, and Ibrahim Hassan Al-Nimr, member of the Board of Directors.

Our team’s delegation is expected to leave for Doha on Friday, April 12, and Al-Abyad will play its first match in the tournament on April 16 against the South Korean national team at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, while in the second match it will face its Japanese counterpart on April 19 at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, and conclude its matches. In the group stage against the Chinese national team on April 22 at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

According to the tournament system, the teams that rank in the first three places qualify to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, while the team that ranks fourth will move on to participate in the global playoff, facing a team from Africa, in order to have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games.
