The Altai Theater removed a performance based on Shenderovich’s play from its repertoire

Altai Regional Drama Theater named after Shukshin removed from repertoire performance “Two Angels, Four Men” based on the play by writer and publicist Viktor Shenderovich.

The theater administration announced that the last show would take place on April 30, and that the reason for its removal from the repertoire was complaints from some viewers about the “production of a play by a foreign agent.”

“For eleven years, the play “Two Angels, Four Men” has been an unconditional hit in our repertoire. For eleven years it was almost always sold out. But the time has come to say goodbye,” the theater said in an official statement.

  • Russian authorities recognized the writer Viktor Shenderovich, who has been sharply criticizing the policies of Vladimir Putin for many years, as a “foreign agent” in December 2021. The formal reason was a money transfer from a foreign citizen. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Shenderovich publicly opposed the war. Now the writer lives outside of Russia.
