Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday evening April 6 in Israel against Benjamin Netanyahu, as the country enters its seventh month of war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In Tel Aviv, 100,000 people, according to the organizers, brandished caricatures of “Bibi” (the nickname of the Israeli Prime Minister) and chanted slogans hostile to the Likud leader, implicated in several legal proceedings, notably for corruption . The demonstrators called for his resignation without delay, demanding “elections now”, according to AFP correspondents present on site.

The demonstrators then demanded a negotiated solution for the release of the 129 hostages still captive, out of some 250 kidnapped on October 7 during the unprecedented Hamas attack in southern Israel.

At least one person was arrested and a police officer was injured during scuffles with the police. The police also announced the arrest of a motorist who slightly injured three people after driving into the crowd while the demonstrators were dispersing. Demonstrations were also held in around fifty other localities. In Caesarea, north of Tel Aviv, clashes broke out between the police and demonstrators who tried to approach the private residence of Benjamin Netanyahu.
