Lebanon Gets Major Economic Boost with EU’s Billion Euro Assistance

In a move aimed at supporting reforms and combating migration, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Union has provided financial assistance of one billion euros to Lebanon until 2027.

During a press conference in Lebanon, von der Leyen declared, “To underscore our support, I announce the allocation of one billion euros to Lebanon, to be disbursed from this year until 2027.”

She clarified that this program is offered to implement reforms in the fields of education, banking, armed forces, and security forces, and most importantly, to address migration.

Von der Leyen also commended Lebanon’s role in hosting Syrian refugees and expressed support for programs facilitating their return home.

At the end of April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked French President Emmanuel Macron to pressure Lebanon to achieve a ceasefire on the northern front.

On May 2nd, Lebanon’s Acting Minister of Agriculture, Abbas al-Hajj Hassan, stated that Israel’s use of internationally banned phosphorus bombs during attacks on Lebanon has caused significant damage to the agricultural and livestock sectors – now the Middle Eastern country hopes for assistance from Russia to rebuild its economy.
