The Medical Syndicate addresses Al-Azhar and higher education to raise the reward for distinguished doctors
-Abdel-Hay: The intern doctor’s reward must be increased to 80% of the resident’s salary
The General Syndicate of Egyptian Physicians addressed His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, to demand an increase in the value of the compensation for intern doctors.
The head of the Doctors Syndicate, Dr., explained. Osama Abdel-Hay, Article 3 of Law 153 of 2019, which includes some amendments to the provisions of Law 415 of 1954, stipulates that the remuneration of the intern doctor is equal to 80% of the resident doctor’s salary, indicating that it was amended by Article 3 of Law 18 of 2023, which stipulates The reward will be in a lump sum amounting to 2,800 pounds, and it may be increased by decision of the Prime Minister after presenting it to the Minister of Higher Education and the Sheikh of Al-Azhar.

Osama Abdel-Hay said that the lump sum of 2,800 pounds represented 80% of the resident doctor’s salary in 2019, and now the resident doctor receives 7 thousand pounds, and the state approved a minimum wage of 6 thousand pounds starting from March 2024. Therefore, the compensation for intern doctors must be increased to no less than 80% of the resident doctor’s salary.
He continued: “Article 3 of the law has been approved.” Law 18 of 2023 is the possibility of increasing the lump sum value by decision of the Prime Minister, calling on the Minister of Higher Education and the Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to present to the Prime Minister an increase in the internship doctor’s remuneration in proportion to the resident doctor’s salary and the minimum wage, in order to ensure the interest of the internship doctors and take into account their working conditions and training.
For his part, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Medical Syndicate, Dr. Khaled Amin, it is necessary to raise the internship doctors’ compensation to 80% of the resident doctor’s salary, especially since the current batches change their training system to spend two years of internship instead of one year.

Khaled Amin, stressed the necessity of developing a legislative amendment to link the remuneration of intern doctors to the resident doctor’s salary by no less than 80%, so that the remuneration is variable according to changes and different circumstances, pointing out that Article 3 of Law 153 of 2019 regarding amendments to Law 415 of 1954 regarding practicing a profession In medicine, it had been stipulated that the excellence bonus should be equal to 80% of the resident doctor’s salary, but it was amended by Article 3 of Law 18 of 2023, mentioned above.
