more efforts are needed for Ukraine’s victory

Ukraine must win its war with Russia, and Western allies must do more to ensure Russia’s defeat. Such statements were made in a joint article dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the conclusion of the Franco-British alliance, which went down in history as the Entente, by the heads of the foreign affairs departments of Great Britain, Lord David Cameron, and Stephane Sejournet of France. Text published British newspaper The Telegraph.

“If Ukraine loses, we all lose. The cost of our failure to support Ukraine now will be much greater than the cost of repelling Putin’s aggression,” the article says. It mentions specific examples of support for Kyiv by London and Paris, including the supply of Scalp and Storm Shadow missiles and the training of Ukrainian pilots. At the same time, the article states that even greater efforts must be made to support Ukraine. At the same time, mention is made of the February meeting in Paris, at which, among other things, the possibility of sending NATO military personnel to Ukraine was discussed. The text itself does not mention this possibility.

Cameron and Sejournet also note the importance of the fight against international terrorism and point out that, despite “Putin’s aggressive war against Ukraine,” France and Britain expressed solidarity with the people of Russia in connection with the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.

The ministers note that 120 years after the creation of the Entente, France and Great Britain continue to maintain friendship, and their joint history allows us to look into the future with optimism “even in dark days.” “Together we can carry others along with us to overcome current difficulties.” Cameron and Sejournet also write about the “renewed” Entente.

In honor of the 120th anniversary of the Franco-British alliance, unusual ceremonies were held – the French military took part in the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace in London, and the British at the Elysee Palace in Paris. The anthems of two countries were performed – “La Marseillaise” and “God Save the King”.

  • The Entente (from the French l’Entente cordiale – “cordial agreement”) is a military-political alliance between the British Empire and France, formed in 1904. On April 8, a series of agreements on colonial issues were signed, which resolved all disputes between these powers. At that moment, there was already an alliance between France and the Russian Empire, and with the conclusion of the British-Russian treaty in 1907, the so-called Triple Entente took shape – an alliance of France, Russia and Britain, which in 1914 entered the First World War against the Central Powers (Germany and its allies) After the revolution in Russia and its exit from the war, the Entente was also called the formed alliance of France, Britain and the United States, which became the main victors of World War I. Russia in the context of the events of the early 20th century and the then alliance with it is not mentioned in the text of Séjournet and Cameron .
