ABU DHABI, 8 APRIL / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, will host the second session of the annual Green Hydrogen Summit, on April 16, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, ADNEC.

The summit aims to accelerate the development of the global green hydrogen economy and support the transformation of the energy sector.

The summit will bring together an elite group of policymakers, sector leaders, prominent investors and entrepreneurs, with the aim of highlighting the growing potential of green hydrogen and its role in supporting countries’ economies to reach climate neutrality.

This year’s summit will be held under the slogan “Building a Hydrogen Economy: From Dialogue to Reality,” and will provide a platform that brings together leading companies and experts in the global hydrogen sector, with the aim of holding in-depth discussions on advancing a low-carbon hydrogen economy in line with global efforts to achieve climate neutrality.

The Green Hydrogen Summit highlights the latest trends and developments in the fields of production, conversion, transport and use of green hydrogen, and the essential role of green hydrogen in the process of decarbonising the global energy system, through a series of high-level discussion sessions, dialogues and seminars that focus on drawing conclusions. As major economies look to decarbonize end-use sectors, summit participants will highlight the sectors consuming the most green hydrogen, as well as the economies and regions driving the emerging green hydrogen market.

The summit discussions will address the measures that governments must take to achieve progress in the field of investment and development of regulatory policies that contribute to expanding the scope of their economies and facilitating global trade in green hydrogen.

Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said on this occasion that Masdar is playing an important and effective role in accelerating the pace towards achieving climate neutrality and supporting the achievement of the goal of doubling the production of renewable energy in the world by three times in line with the historic “UAE Agreement” that Reached at COP28.

He added that green hydrogen represents a vital element in the process of transition towards sustainable energy and contributes to strengthening global efforts to remove carbon. Therefore, we attach great importance to continuing to develop the entire green hydrogen value chain, and establishing clear frameworks for cooperation, sharing best practices, and harmonizing legislation to accelerate the transition towards a green hydrogen economy. .

Masdar’s green hydrogen management aims to become a leading producer by 2030, which supports the UAE’s low-carbon hydrogen policy that was announced during the COP28 conference, and the conclusion of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Masdar to enhance The UAE’s global position in the field of hydrogen production and export.

Masdar is playing an active role in turning this vision into reality, by developing projects with power-to-X technology, which is the conversion of energy to different paths, whether in the UAE or globally, according to which water and electricity are converted into carbon-neutral synthetic fuels.

Projects announced over the past 12 months demonstrate Masdar’s commitment to implementing large-scale green solutions for hydrogen and its derivatives.

Masdar is cooperating with Japanese energy companies Inpex, Tokyo Gas, and Osaka Gas to explore opportunities for e-methane production in Abu Dhabi. It has also partnered with OMV to cooperate in producing green hydrogen to remove carbon from industrial processes.

Masdar signed an agreement with the French company HY24 to cooperate in developing and investing in projects worth up to 2 billion euros. And a partnership with the Emirates Steel Group, Arkan, to develop an innovative green hydrogen project with the aim of reducing carbon emissions in the steel sector in the UAE.

Masdar also cooperated with Total Energy in completing the first flight to test the possibility of converting methanol into sustainable aviation fuel.

Masdar joined the Hydrogen Council with the aim of enhancing hydrogen’s contribution to achieving global goals for reducing carbon emissions.

In light of the growing importance of hydrogen and its essential role in shaping the future of sustainable energy, the agenda of the Green Hydrogen Summit will focus on many important aspects in this sector, including legislative frameworks, innovation, and sustainable financing, with the aim of formulating a path that supports the transition towards sustainable energy.
