The United States expects an attack by Iran on Israel “imminently”

Washington: The United States and its allies believe major missile or drone attacks by Iran or its proxies against military and government targets in Israel are imminent, in what would mark a significant extension of the six-month conflict, according to people familiar with the intelligence.

The possible attack, possibly using high-precision missiles, could occur in the coming days, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss confidential matters. It’s seen more as a question of when, not if, it will happen, one of the people said, based on assessments from US and Israeli intelligence.

The intelligence led US President Joe Biden to warn Iran of any aggression towards Israel in response to the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Syria that killed two Iranian generals on April 1.

“We also want to address the Iranian threat to launch a significant attack on Israel,” Biden said at a news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Washington. “As I told the Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security against these threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad. Let me say it again, firmly: everything we can to protect Israel’s security.”
