Abu Dhabi, April 10 / WAM / In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”… the UAE announced the allocation of an amount of 15 million US dollars in support of the “Amalthea Fund”, which was announced by the Republic of Cyprus to support the sea corridor initiative. Between Cypriot ports and the Gaza Strip.
The fund was established to facilitate and coordinate the flow of aid reaching Gaza, and to work to strengthen it to ensure its delivery as effectively as possible.
It also aims to raise the level of capacity for the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, by providing flexible financing methods and tools for parties concerned with enhancing the humanitarian response to contribute to these efforts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained in a statement that the UAE’s contribution to this fund stems from its keen vision to address the worsening catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip through this multilateral international cooperative approach, which achieved a historical precedent for helping the Palestinian people before the sea corridor between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip stopped. .
The Ministry stressed the priority of alleviating the repercussions of the critical humanitarian situation without delay by ensuring the flow of aid immediately, safely, without obstacles, on a wide and sustainable scale, through all available ports and routes, by land, air and sea.
The Ministry stressed that, within the framework of a historic commitment towards the brotherly Palestinian people, the UAE, under its wise leadership, continues to provide urgent humanitarian aid and supplies to the Gaza Strip, and from this standpoint it believes that the sea corridor is part of the tireless efforts to increase the flow of aid and goods via all roads and mechanisms in an urgent manner, while ensuring Protection for relief workers.
