The gendarmes raided the bottling sites of Contrexéville and Vittel (Vosges) of the Nestlé Waters group on Tuesday April 9 in the morning, according to information from France Bleu Sud Lorraine confirmed by Nestlé management.

This operation was carried out as part of an investigation opened in 2023 after a complaint filed by the Eau 88 collective concerning illegal dumping of plastic bottle residue buried in the ground. More than 40,000 cubic meters of PVC were deposited in earthen pits in Saint-Ouen-lès-Parey and They-sous-Montfort, near the sites raided, explains France Bleu. The Eau 88 collective is calling for the evacuation of landfills and fears “risks of chemical pollution in the short term and then physical with micro and nano plastics”explains Bernard Schmitt, member of the association.

Requested by France Bleu Sud Lorraine, Nestlé Waters confirms these searches “on the environmental aspects of former waste deposits.” The group explains that “These old waste deposits date from the 1960s, before Nestlé Waters became the owner”and indicates that “Two thirds of the sites concerned have already been cleaned up by Nestlé Waters and we are awaiting feedback from the environmental authorities to clarify the best management option for the last three sites.”

On April 4, Nestlé made the news after Franceinfo and The world revealed an Anses report confirming widespread contamination with bacteria, pesticides, PFAS, of natural mineral water sources operated by the Nestlé group in France. The searches carried out this Tuesday do not concern this aspect.
