in the USA there is a danger of an attack similar to the terrorist attack at Crocus

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is concerned about the possibility of a coordinated terrorist attack in the country – like the one that led to the deaths of dozens of people at the Crocus City concert hall near Moscow last month.

This is stated in the text of the speech of FBI Director Christopher Wray, who on Thursday presents a report at a hearing in the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives of Congress.

“I have a hard time imagining—in my entire career in law enforcement—a time when so many threats to public safety and national security would arise simultaneously,” Ray said, noting that this is the case now.

U.S. officials have long been concerned about the risk of an attack by an individual or small group, fueled by the war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, which is designated a terrorist group by the U.S. and EU. “Voice of America”. But Ray’s speech spoke of growing fears of an attack similar to the Crocus attack, which was claimed by Wilayat Khorasan, an affiliate of the recognized Islamic State terrorist group in Afghanistan.

Wray’s goal, according to Voice of America, is to convince lawmakers to extend the suspect surveillance program, which expires this month. Some changes to the program were blocked in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. A number of lawmakers from both parties argue that the proposed measures do not sufficiently limit the government’s powers in this area.

  • On March 22, several people armed with machine guns burst into a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow, where a concert of the rock group Picnic was to take place, and opened fire on the assembled spectators. Then they set the hall on fire. A huge fire started, causing the roof of the building to collapse. According to the latest data, 144 people died.
  • The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack. The United States and other Western countries consider this version to be the most likely.
  • Russian authorities believe that Ukraine may be involved in the terrorist attack in the concert hall. Kyiv categorically rejects this.
  • On March 7, the US Embassy in Russia warned of threats of terrorist attacks in Moscow. It was then noted that attacks were possible “in the next two days.” American citizens were advised to avoid crowded places. Later, the warning of the American diplomatic mission was duplicated for their citizens by several other countries.
