Moviefone: To start, Simone, what was your first reaction to the script and the idea of doing a remake of the ’90s comedy?

Simone Joy Jones: The first impression was, “Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m laughing out loud reading the script.” A lot of times you think, “Oh, that’ll be fun once that person is there. It’ll be fun once it’s all happening.” I was like, “No, it was funny off the page.” And I was like, “Okay, awesome.” With this specific remake, I was very excited about Wade’s Vision. He came with the whole structure of how the movie was going to be made and I said, “I agree.”

MF: Nicole, were you a fan of the original and what does it mean to you personally to be in this new version?

Nicole Richie: I’m a die-hard fan. I have seen this movie no less than 1,000 times. I could tell you all about it. So when we filmed in the original house, I was walking around very excited. We have some very special cameos from the original version in there and I felt like I was at Universal Studios. I thought, “I can’t believe I’m here. I’ve been in this room; I’ve been in this kitchen.” I connect a lot with Rose. I quote her all the time. It was fun.

MF: Simone, can you talk about what Tanya learns about responsibility from working with Rose and taking care of her siblings all summer?

SJJ: I think he just learns that you have to figure it out. I think that’s what I’ve learned in real life: “It’s okay, no one knows.” The secret is that nobody knows. So I think watching her discover that in real time is very refreshing and amazing to see.

NR: Which is a real confidence that I think only a teenager can have, because you really don’t know. I think obviously as we get older, we know the other side of it and we’re like, “I don’t want to fail.” I think there’s a kind of blind confidence in Tanya that says, “Okay, what do I have to lose? I have my whole life ahead of me, so I’m going to do it.” I really love that.

MF: Finally, Nicole, you are so funny in this movie. Was all the humor in the script or did you find any of it on set? Also, could you identify with Rose as a character?

NR: Thank you. Well, one thing that was very important for me to remember all the time is that we’re always looking at Rose through the eyes of a teenager. So the amount of responsibility that she talks about as she tries to move lightly through everything that’s going on in her head, and she’s talking to Tanya, but she’s also talking to herself and she’s also talking out loud. high. I think that’s how teenagers see adults, crazy. So I think it was really important for me to know that that was the perspective and the light that we were looking at it in all the time. What I like most about Rose is that she won’t let anything get in her way. I mean, she really has that forward energy. She knows, as a boss and as a director of this company, that everything starts at the top and she wants everyone else to be excited, and she just wants to build her life and keep it moving. I really love that about her.
