The European Parliament on Thursday refused to make a decision on funding the EU Council due to the inability of EU countries to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot systems. He writes about this, in particular, “European truth” with reference to the deputies who were present at the meeting.

The message was also made on social media by the head of the Lithuanian delegation to the European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius. “The European Parliament suspended the decision on funding the Council of the EU due to the impossibility of supplying Patriot systems to Ukraine,” Kubilius wrote.

The decision was made on the initiative of MEP, former Prime Minister of Belgium Guy Verhovstadt.

In his speech, Verkhovstadt noted that European countries have about 100 Patriot systems, and to protect their cities, Ukraine asks to transfer only 7 to it. The politician’s speech was met with applause. As a result, the decision to refuse to approve the budget of the European Council was supported by 515 members of the European Parliament, while 62 were against it.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, after a massive Russian air attack on the night of April 11, called on partner countries to speed up the adoption of measures to strengthen Ukrainian air defense. He said that some of the attack drones and missiles were shot down, but some still hit critical infrastructure in a number of areas.

On Saturday last week, Zelensky said that Ukraine needs 25 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to completely cover its territory from Russian air attacks, he noted. BBC Russian Service.
