Why is Trump attacking the Bible? Because even his religious followers are about to be shocked.

As Donald Trump, the first impeached president, faces justice in a Manhattan courtroom, he is channeling his inner Aaron Burr, the first vice president impeached and put on trial. Burr was charged not with murdering the revered Alexander Hamilton in a duel in New Jersey, but several years later, in 1807, with conspiracy to commit treason. Although he fell from grace, Burr was acquitted.

Trump longs for the same judicial fate. Trump faces 91 felony charges in four separate trials. No other political figure has ever matched Trump’s courage and guts to turn what would be, for anyone else, a political death sentence into a sword to cut down his enemies.

Republican voters overwhelmingly believe that Trump is being persecuted by President Joe Biden: that he has weaponized the full power of his government to rig the election by charging Trump in multiple jurisdictions, making him a criminal candidate in the November election.

“Every time they accuse me,” Trump he tells his rallies, “I consider it a great badge of honor. I am being accused by you, and never forget, our enemies want to take away my freedom because I will never allow them to take away yours… In the end, they are not after me. They come after you and I happen to be in the way.”
