Dogs provide update on star after terrifying incident

UPDATE: The Western Bulldogs have made the call to place star midfielder Tom Liberatore under AFL concussion protocols after he scarily collapsed during their 29-point loss to the Bombers on Friday night.

Liberatore suddenly collapsed in the centre square during the final term at Marvel Stadium as play continued downfield. Opposing midfielder Darcy Parish immediately came to his aid — clearly concerned for the star’s wellbeing.

The collapse occurred just minutes after Liberatore was crunched by Bomber Jake Stringer.

Despite Bulldogs club doctors clearing Liberatore of concussion after he passed the head injury assessment at the time, as well as showing no signs of delayed head trauma the morning after, the club has made the call to sideline him.

In a club statement released on Saturday, the club expressed concern regarding the bizarre and terrifying incident.

“Tom remains without concussion symptoms this morning. However, given the concerning nature of in-game footage during the final minutes that show Tom falling to the ground, the club’s medical team has subsequently reached a decision to place him in concussion protocols,” the Bulldogs statement read.

With this in mind, the Dogs have decided against letting their 2016 premiership star take to the field against the Saints at Marvel Stadium next Thursday night, as he undertakes 12 days of concussion protocols.

“This decision has been taken with an abundance of caution, with Tom’s health and wellbeing the absolute priority.
