Israel repels largest drone attack in history, no casualties

On Sunday night, Iran attacked Israel with several hundred attack drones and missiles. The Iranian side said this was a response to the April 1 Israeli strike on the Iranian embassy in Beirut, during which seven Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers were killed. Air raid sirens sounded in northern and southern Israel, as well as in Jerusalem.

By message The New York Times, citing Israeli officials, said 185 kamikaze drones, 36 cruise missiles and 110 surface-to-surface missiles were launched across the country overnight. Most of the launches were carried out from Iranian territory, and a small part from Iraq and Yemen. This is the largest simultaneous attack of its type in history. It lasted about five hours.

Israel Defense Forces reportedthat 99% of all missiles and drones were shot down, most of them outside Israeli territory. The defense included air defense forces, including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling systems, as well as US and British Israeli army fighters. The Jordanian armed forces also joined the defense.

Iran said it successfully hit intended military targets in Israel. Israel, for its part, declares that there is no destruction. One military base in the Negev desert was slightly damaged. There are no casualties. Several civilians were injured by debris from downed shells and were hospitalized.

Also that night, northern Israel was attacked by Katyusha missiles from Lebanon. They were intercepted by air defense forces. In response, Israeli fighter jets inflicted strike against the positions of the Islamist group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
