"Abu Dhabi Bicycles" Joins the UCI Climate Action Charter

Abu Dhabi, April 15 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club announced its joining the “Climate Action Charter” of the International Cycling Union, which aims to take more steps to build a sustainable sport that serves and preserves the environment.
According to the International Cycling Union, the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club has joined the list of Asian and Middle Eastern clubs and teams that have ratified this charter.
In a statement on its official website, the International Cycling Union stressed the importance of implementing sustainability programs to maintain efforts related to combating climate change and adapting to its effects, pointing out that postponing or not implementing the provisions of this charter will have negative repercussions in the future on society and on the sport of cycling, in particular. The next five years will be crucial in the transition to a sustainable climate path, and cycling will play an important role in this context.
For his part, Al Nakhira Al Khaili, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club, said that in line with the directives of the wise leadership, to extend the Year of Sustainability for another year, the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club joined the International Federation’s program related to the Climate Action Charter; To maintain the application of sustainability in cycling.
He added that in the recent period, the club organized many diverse events and environmentally friendly community tours, used recyclable medals such as wooden medals, and also encouraged the club to adopt cycling as a way of life for all segments of society, which was remarkably welcomed by everyone.
Al Khaili continued: “Based on the club’s responsibility for this sport, we will work during the coming period to implement many programs and provide more solutions, proposals and strategic plans to shed light on efforts to build and develop a sustainable sport that serves and preserves the environment.”
He pointed out that the capital, Abu Dhabi, is witnessing an unprecedented surge in interest in cycling. Many specialized tracks have been established, according to the highest and latest international standards, in addition to developing the infrastructure, which contributes to achieving the desired goals.
The Abu Dhabi Cycling Club’s inclusion in this program comes in line with the “Bike Abu Dhabi” initiative, which was launched in November 2021 with the aim of consolidating and strengthening the emirate’s position as a leading global center for cycling, while encouraging community members to practice this sport as a sustainable means of transportation.
