The Arab League condemns the escalation of extremist settler attacks in the West Bank
The Arab League condemned the frenzied campaign that armed extremist settlers continue to launch against the cities and towns of the West Bank, where they carry out attacks, most of which occur under the watchful eye and protection of the Israeli authorities, who encourage these shameful operations, thus entrenching a general state of impunity and continued presumption of Palestinian lives and property.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League, explained that the crimes committed by the occupation on a daily basis in Gaza should not cover up what the West Bank is witnessing in terms of a clear increase in frequency and severity. Violent crimes, burning homes and agricultural lands, and destroying property, are committed by armed settlers every day, knowing that the occupation government is in fact a settler government that covers up their crimes and is not held accountable for the atrocities they commit.
Rushdi added that the imposition of sanctions by some countries on a number of settlers represents a small, late step and is insufficient to deter the escalating phenomenon and provide protection for Palestinian civilians from the West Bank, stressing the need for the Security Council to move to end this shameful situation and put an end to the state of impunity in the West Bank, and to defend these people. The dead settlers are the price for their continuing crimes against the Palestinian people.
