Tomorrow…the National Junior Football Association opens its campaign in… " Gulf Games" Facing his Omani counterpart
Abu Dhabi, April 15 / WAM / Tomorrow, Tuesday, our U-17 national football team will open its campaign in the first Gulf Youth Games, UAE 2024, by facing its Omani brother at Al Nahyan Stadium at Al Wahda Club in Abu Dhabi.
Today, Monday, the team will conduct its final training at the Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, led by national coach Majid Salem Al Zaabi, in preparation for the first confrontation in the tournament, while in the second confrontation it will meet its Bahraini counterpart, and the third with its Kuwaiti counterpart.
The national team launched its training last Friday, with a list of 23 players, which witnessed the coach’s focus on the physical aspect and many tactical matters.
Football competitions in the first Gulf Youth Games are held in a single-round league system, with the total points being calculated in determining the final standings.
Majid Salem Al Zaabi said: “Participating in the Gulf Games represents a new opportunity for the national team players, in order to gain more experience, against sister Gulf teams, despite previous confrontations that brought them together, but the competition to be crowned with a Gulf title is in the final stage.” “In itself, it is a positive opportunity for the players.”
He added: “We enter the match, and our goal is to win the first Gulf Youth Championship. Our ambition is great, with a distinguished group of players, after they were carefully selected from various clubs in the country, to be the nucleus of the various national teams during the next stage.”
The national team coach continued: “We are competing in the Asian qualifiers, which qualify for the World Cup, next October, and the Gulf Games are the best start in the journey of preparations for these qualifiers, especially since they are being held on our stadiums.”
He explained that the Gulf tournament matches are characterized by comfort for the players, as they do not come under any pressure, and thus it will be a positive opportunity to show their best levels and discover new talents.
