Gun handler sent to prison after Baldwin killed woman on set

Santa Fe: Hannah Gutiérrez, the main gun handler of the western movie. Oxidehas been sentenced to 18 months in prison for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot when actor Alec Baldwin was handling a gun during production of the film in 2021.

In March, Gutierrez, 27, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for mistakenly loading a live bullet into a revolver Baldwin was using on the set of a movie in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

“You were the only one who turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer told Gutierrez in handing down the sentence.

Hutchins’ friends from the film industry paid tribute to his creativity and kindness from the courtroom and via video. They also criticized Gutiérrez’s violations of firearms safety protocol.
