Iran’s attack on Israel: what to remember from Monday April 15

Tensions remain high, Monday April 15, two days later Iran’s unprecedented attack against Israel, launched in response to a strike against the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, attributed to Israel. Many countries, led by the United States, are calling to avoid a conflagration in the Middle East, where war is raging in the Gaza Strip. Despite everything, the Israeli army promised on Monday “a response” to the Iranian attack. Franceinfo summarizes what to remember from this day.

Israel will “respond to the launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles and drones on the territory of the State of Israel”, declared Monday evening, the chief of staff of the army, General Herzi Halevi, while visiting the Nevatim base, in the south of the country. The Israeli army spokesperson declared that the victims of the strike which targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1 were “terrorists” engaged against Israel, thus providing the first official comment from the army on this strike.

“Those killed in Damascus were members of the Quds Force. These are people engaged in terrorism against the State of Israel,” Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said at a press conference in response to a question.

Shortly after, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the international community to “stay united” in front of “Iranian aggression, which threatens world peace”, after this foiled attack with the support of several of its allies, including Washington. In a message broadcast by his services on the social network “support from the United States, Britain, France and other countries to thwart the Iranian attack”.
