The Ministers of Housing and Environment follow up on the project to develop the site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace in the city of St. Catherine

Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, and Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, held a meeting at the Ministry of Housing headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, to discuss proposals for managing and operating the project to develop the Great Transfiguration Site above the Land of Peace in the city of St. Catherine, and the activities implemented in the project in a manner consistent with With the surrounding environment in accordance with the foundations and principles of sustainable development, and achieving optimal exploitation of the resources and components that characterize the region, in the presence of officials from the two ministries.

 

Dr. Assem El-Gazzar confirmed that the project to develop the city of St. Catherine, “the site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace,” is in harmony with the surrounding environment, as environmental standards govern the implementation of development work, in order to achieve sustainable development, and the development also includes raising the efficiency of the existing construction in the city of St. Catherine, in implementation of the mandates of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, has decided to develop the city of St. Catherine, place it in its appropriate position, and maximize the benefit of the tourism components of this city, which has an archaeological, religious and environmental character, in line with sustainable development trends.

 

< p> The Minister of Housing indicated that the Ministry, through the Central Reconstruction Agency, and with funding from the New Urban Communities Authority, is implementing the integrated plan for the project to develop the site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace in the city of St. Catherine, which was developed by the Ministry in cooperation with all concerned parties, and aims to establish A spiritual shrine on the mountains surrounding the Holy Valley, to be a destination for spiritual, mountain, healing and environmental tourism worldwide, in addition to providing all tourist and entertainment services for visitors, and developing the city and its surroundings, while preserving the environmental and visual character of pristine nature, which qualifies it to be a global destination for spiritual tourism.

 

Dr. Assem El-Gazzar explained that the first phase of development work on the site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace in the city of St. Catherine is being completed, which includes the implementation of 14 projects, namely (development of the existing environmental lodge – Establishment of the new eco-lodge – Establishment of Peace Square – Establishment of the mountain hotel – Construction of the new visitor center – Establishment of the new administrative complex – Developing the tourist area – Development of the heritage town center – Developing the Bedouin housing area – Development of Wadi Al-Deir – Establishment of the new residential area – Establishment of the new tourist area – Road network and facilities – Preventing the dangers of floods).

 

For her part, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, thanked Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, for the full support and coordination between the two ministries on several files. Shared, and the Ministry’s real understanding of complex environmental issues in light of the international developments taking place in the world. The site of the Great Transfiguration in the city of St. Catherine, including cooperation in studying the strategic environmental impact assessment of the project, and the items required to be completed in that study, in preparation for issuing environmental approvals. It also discussed aspects of cooperation between the concerned authorities to develop the best ways to manage the city in its new form.
