Russians living in Lithuania will be prohibited from traveling to Russia too often

The Lithuanian Seimas Committee on National Security on Wednesday approved a proposal to limit the number of trips to their homeland for Russians and Belarusians living in Lithuania. According to the decision, citizens of Belarus or Russia permanently residing in Lithuania are allowed to travel to these countries no more than once every three months. Otherwise, their residence permits in Lithuania may be revoked.

The Sejm Committee believes that too frequent trips to Russia and Belarus may pose a threat to national security, reports portal Delfi.lt.

The Lithuanian parliament called this decision a compromise. Previously deputies offered limit the entry and issuance of residence permits for Belarusian citizens who are not highly qualified workers, and deport Belarusians already living in Lithuania.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania was one of the first EU countries to restrict the issuance of new Schengen and national visas to Russian citizens.
