The Minister of Irrigation confirms Egypt’s commitment to cooperating with African countries to improve water resources management

 The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sweilem, affirmed Egypt’s commitment, during its presidency of the Council of African Ministers of Water (AMCO), to strengthening cooperation with various African countries to improve the management of water resources on the continent, especially since the North African region is one of the regions that suffers from the most stress. Water resources on the African continent, in addition to the challenges of climate change and access to drinking water and sanitation services. Pointing out that challenges can be transformed into opportunities through concerted efforts and joint cooperation between countries, which highlights the importance of this meeting to discuss and determine regional priorities.

This came during a speech by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Chairman of the Council of African Water Ministers during the meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee and the Technical Experts Committee of the Council for the North African region, which is organized by the Council of African Ministers of Water in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Cairo during the 16th and 17th of April.

Suwailem pointed out the importance of this meeting as a platform for discussion, gathering opinions and ideas, and determining the priorities of the countries of the North African region with regard to the water sector, in order to enrich the preparatory process undertaken by the African continent to present its vision and priorities during the activities of the Tenth World Water Forum scheduled to be held in Bali. In Indonesia next May, emphasizing the need to establish mechanisms to formulate a road map that reflects the aspirations of AMCAO member states. To see African waters beyond 2025.

The Minister invited member states to actively participate in the activities of the “Ninth African Water Week” Which is hosted by Egypt in conjunction with the activities of the “Seventh Cairo Water Week”. Next October, and also inviting countries to actively participate in the activities of the “Tenth World Water Forum,” where the Council of African Water Ministers will lead the African track in the forum, as the participation of African countries represents an important tool to ensure the achievement of the desired goals of these events and to ensure raising the level of the water sector in Africa as desired and provide the support it needs to achieve its aspirations.
