Yulia Navalnaya included in Time’s list of 100 most influential people

American Time magazine published an interview with Russian opposition leader Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Alexei Navalny, who died in a colony. This is the first big interview with Yulia Navalnaya since the death of her husband two months ago. Allies of Navalny, who was one of the leaders of the Russian opposition, are convinced that he was killed.

Yulia Navalnaya was included in the list of the 100 most influential people in the world according to the publication; US Vice President Kamala Harris wrote a text about her for the magazine.

The interview, according to Time, was recorded in Vilnius on April 1 and lasted about two hours.

As Navalnaya said, the last time she had a date with her husband was a few days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in February 2022. Navalny was already in prison at that time and was allowed a long visit. After the start of the war, the spouses could only talk on the phone, and Navalny very rarely received permission to do this.

According to Yulia Navalnaya, she knew that the issue of a possible exchange of her husband was being discussed, but did not have details about possible negotiations. She also expressed confidence that sooner or later the exact circumstances of Alexei Navalny’s death will become known. She herself believes in the version previously expressed by Navalny’s associates that he was killed on the direct orders of Vladimir Putin.

According to Yulia Navalnaya, she herself decided to announce after her husband’s death that she would continue his fight.

Navalnaya also spoke about her meeting with US President Joe Biden. According to her, it was a warm conversation that lasted about an hour. They also talked about sanctions and the fact that the Anti-Corruption Fund founded by Navalny could help the US authorities in detecting the assets of persons included in the sanctions lists. According to Navalnaya, sanctions are needed primarily not against ordinary officials, but against people from Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.
