Partnership between "Emerge" And Dubai Maritime to develop a solar power plant

ABU DHABI, 18 APRIL / WAM / Emerge, the joint venture between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” and the “EDF” Group, announced the signing of an agreement to develop a solar energy station with a capacity of 980 kilowatts on the roof of the Dubai Maritime City building. The station will contribute to Avoiding the release of 780 tons of carbon emissions annually.

The project comes within the framework of the broad energy transformation of the Dubai Ports World Group (DP World), the company that owns Dubai Maritime City, to enhance the use of renewable energy sources and energy storage battery systems within its global supply chain operations.

The station will be installed on the roof of the employee housing building and will consist of more than 1,700 solar units. Emerge will undertake the development of the entire project, including financing, design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of the solar energy units for a period of 25 years.

Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, said: “Our agreement with Dubai Maritime City to develop a solar energy station on the roof of the employee housing building comes as an extension of our success in developing several projects in the UAE since the founding of Emerge as an energy services company that provides integrated solutions without any “This is an upfront cost to the customer, and we are proud to support this project and contribute actively to achieving Dubai Maritime City’s decarbonisation goals.”

For his part, Ahmed Al Hammadi, Executive Director of Operations at Dubai Maritime City, said, “Relying on clean energy represents a major element within our sustainability strategy and achieving the company’s goals of becoming carbon neutral by 2040 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.”

He added, “We are pleased to partner with innovative companies such as Emerge and Masdar to contribute to accelerating the transition towards renewable energy, and we look forward to starting the development of the solar power plant in Dubai Maritime City.”

Al Hammadi said, “DB World is committed to contributing a pioneering role in promoting sustainability within global trade practices, as solar energy represents an important part of our efforts to shift towards reliance on renewable energy.”

Emerge is a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, and was established in 2021 with the aim of developing distributed solar energy solutions, energy storage batteries, and hybrid solutions for customers in the commercial and industrial sectors.

Emerge provides customers with integrated energy management solutions through solar energy agreements at no upfront cost to the customer.

The project contributes to achieving the goals of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 44 percent in the country’s clean energy mix by 2050.

According to the REmap 2030 report issued by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on expectations for the renewable energy sector in the UAE, rooftop solar photovoltaic technologies could contribute to saving about six percent of the total energy generated in the UAE by 2030.
