The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that on the night of April 17, the Ukrainian military attacked a military airfield used by the Russian army in Dzhankoy in annexed Crimea. The General Staff published videoallegedly, a missile strike and its consequences – explosions and fire.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said earlier on Thursday that at the airfield in Dzhankoy, 4 launchers of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system, 3 radar stations, an air defense control center, and air surveillance equipment “Fundament” were “destroyed or critically damaged” M “”. The message of the General Staff lists the same targets hit. As stated, aircraft were also hit (attack helicopters are based at the airfield), but the Russian military carefully hides their number, as well as the losses of personnel.

Previously, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky confirmed the strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine April 17 at the airfield in Dzhankoy.

The Russian military did not comment on the strike. Already in the early morning of April 17, videos of a large-scale fire appeared in Crimean public pages, presumably at the airfield in Dzhankoy and its environs. Pro-war telegram channels acknowledged the fact of the strike and the damage caused, but did not provide details.

Car traffic on the Crimean Bridge was temporarily stoppeda section of the Dzhankoy – Feodosia highway near Dzhankoy on Wednesday morning was temporarily closed to traffic, and a detour was organized.

There is no independent confirmation of the Ukrainian side’s claims about military equipment destroyed at the airfield. It is known that the 39th helicopter regiment of the 27th mixed aviation division of the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Southern Military District is stationed in Dzhankoy. In addition, helicopters of the Russian FSB border service are based in Dzhankoy. S-300/S-400 launchers were also spotted on the airfield, but it is not known for certain whether they were there at the time of the impact.

The specific type of missiles is also unknown. Russian military bloggers claimed that we were talking about American ATACMS. The transfer of such missiles with a long range (300 kilometers or more) to Ukraine has not been reported, but when launched from the Kherson region, Dzhankoy falls into the ATACMS strike zone with a range of 165 kilometers.
