Tedesco charged over ugly Papenhuyzen trip

Roosters captain James Tedesco has been charged by the NRL match review committee for tripping Ryan Papenhuyzen during his side’s loss to the Storm.

The fullback stuck his leg out and collected his opposing No.1 during the second half of the 18-12 loss at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.

Tedesco will be fined $750 if he takes the early guilty plea, but risks a $1000 fine if he opts to fight the charge at the judiciary and loses.

The 31-year-old pleaded with referee Ashley Klein after being placed on report, but the official explained the decision rather clearly.

“Your leg came out, you have to have two hands on him,” Klein said.

Andrew Johns questioned why Tedesco avoided further punishment on the night.

“In the good old days, that was an automatic send-off,” he said on the Nine broadcast.

“Why isn’t that a sin-bin? You were straight off [in previous years].”
