The US introduced new sanctions against Iran

The United States and Britain on Thursday announced new sanctions against Iran in response to the unprecedented Iranian shelling of Israel on Sunday night.

How reported The US Treasury Department has sanctioned 16 individuals and two companies that produce military drones in Iran. Restrictions are also being introduced against five companies in different jurisdictions that supply components for steel production to the Iranian company Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC).

The US sanctions list included the Iranian automaker Bahman, as well as three of its subsidiaries, which, according to the department, continue to provide material support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), notes “Present Time”.

“The sanctions target leaders and entities associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian Ministry of Defense, and the Iranian government’s missile and drone program that enabled this brazen attack. As I have spoken with my fellow G7 leaders “The morning after the attack, we intend to act collectively to increase economic pressure on Iran,” it says in a statement by US President Joe Biden.

Biden noted that US allies and partners have introduced or will introduce additional sanctions and measures to limit Iran’s “destabilizing military programs.”

Great Britain introduced sanctions against seven individuals and six legal entities, including the IRGC Naval Forces, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and a number of military personnel.

“These sanctions, announced jointly with the United States, show that we unequivocally condemn such behavior and will further limit Iran’s ability to destabilize the region,” British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said.

On the night of April 14, Iran attacked Israel with drones and missiles. This was done, Tehran claims, in response to a missile attack on a building belonging to the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1. About 170 drones and 150 cruise and ballistic missiles were fired towards Israel. Almost all of them were intercepted by the military of Israel, the United States and Jordan.
