“France will always stand on the side of the defenders of freedom, for free, pluralistic and independent information,” it says in Macron’s statement on social media X.

The parties spoke about the situation with political prisoners, the rights of refugees and the influence of propaganda, as well as the destruction of free media in Russia, writes “New Newspaper”.

In addition, during the meeting, Muratov and Macron discussed humanitarian issues, as well as the possibility of an Olympic truce, which was proposed by the French President in March.

Earlier, Macron said that he intends to turn to Chinese President Xi Jinping for help in organizing a truce between Russia and Ukraine during the Olympics in Paris – from July 26 to August 11. The Kremlin responded by saying that it was skeptical of Macron’s initiative. Moscow believes that Kyiv will use the possible suspension of hostilities to rearm.
