AST withdrew two more books from sale due to “LGBT propaganda”

Publishing house AST withdrawn from sale two more books due to “LGBT propaganda”: the 1990 novel “The House at the End of the World” by Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer Michael Cunningham, and the novel “Giovanni’s Room” by American writer James Baldwin, first published in 1956.

Both works talk about same-sex love.

Earlier, AST withdrew from sale the latest novel by Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin, “Heritage.”

In December 2022, Vladimir Putin signed a law completely banning LGBT propaganda in Russia – previously it was prohibited only among minors. The new law, according to its authors, should suppress the dissemination of information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism in the media, the Internet, advertising and works of art, and large fines are provided for its violators – up to 400 thousand rubles for citizens and up to five million rubles for organizations.

In November last year, the Supreme Court of Russia, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, decided to ban the non-existent “international LGBT movement” and recognize it as extremist.
