His Holiness Pope Tawadros II participated today, Monday, in the “Media and Information Culture for World Understanding and Peace” conference. Organized by the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the UNESCO Organization for Culture and Science.

 

 

 

 

 

The opening session of the conference witnessed the announcement of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II receiving an honorary doctorate from the Arab Academy For science, technology and maritime transport affiliated with the League of Arab States.

 

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, received His Holiness the Pope. His arrival at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, where His Holiness was received in the Emirates Hall at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, before the start of the opening session of the conference.

 

 

 

Professor Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar announced that His Holiness Pope Tawadros II had been granted an honorary doctorate degree from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and the Academy’s President said in Rationales for granting a doctoral degree: “After reviewing the recommendation of the Academy’s Executive Council, the forty-seventh regular session held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Academy’s headquarters in New Alamein, and in implementation of the Academy’s Education Council No. 2 of 2024, the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport decided to grant His Eminence the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Mosque, and His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Mark, an honorary doctorate degree in recognition of his efforts in serving humanity and upholding the values ​​of tolerance.

 

 

 

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and the President of the Academy presented His Holiness the Pope with an honorary doctorate amid the applause of the attendees.

 

 

 

In his speech, His Holiness the Pope stressed his happiness at being in the Arab League, expressing his gratitude for receiving an honorary doctorate from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Emphasizing the importance of education for human life and societies, he pointed out that university education contributes to finding a new formulation of the scientific and cognitive mind based on scientific methodology.

He stressed that life is linked to the value of love, as a person will not live without love, and love is Love of goodness and love of others is what connects man to God and to his fellow man, and the world cannot be imagined without love.

His Holiness the Pope indicated that we pray at the beginning of every day, looking forward to God’s help, so we say: “Let the light of your face shine for us and shine.” The light of your divine knowledge is upon us. Make us, O our Master, to be children of light and children of day, so that we may pass this day with righteousness, purity, and good management.

 

 

 

His Holiness pointed out that the media has become an essential part of the components of society, and a link between man and the world, as it has removed barriers between individuals and societies, stressing It is everyone’s responsibility to make the media an effective means of serving humanity, learning, and advancing humanity.

Regarding love for others, His Holiness the Pope pointed out that those who contribute to scientific progress, those who provide humanitarian initiatives that preserve the environment, and those who intervene to stop wars, these provide The highest form of love for others.

 

His Holiness the Pope was accompanied during the conference by Their Eminences Bishop Daniel, Metropolitan of Maadi and Secretary of the Holy Synod, Bishop Julius, General Bishop of Ancient Egypt and the Diocese of Services, and Bishop Pavelli, General Bishop of the Churches. The honorary doctorate that His Holiness the Pope received today is the third honorary doctorate he has received, as His Holiness previously received an honorary doctorate, in 2015 from Beni Suef University for his role in " Strengthening social peace in Egypt.” He received the same degree from Basman Peter University in Hungary in August of last year (2023) in exchange for His Holiness’s contribution and interest in developing Christian education and community development.
