"Sharjah Innovation" He discusses his strategy and plans during the next stage

Sharjah, April 22, 2017 (WAM) – During its meeting, chaired by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Council, the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park discussed strategies for the next phase of one of the most important and fastest growing innovation centers in the region.

Ambitious growth plans were developed for the complex during the second meeting of the Council, which was formed pursuant to Emiri Decree No. 48 of 2023 issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and includes an elite group of heads and directors of institutions, academics, innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry and business scene experts. Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi opened the meeting, then His Excellency Hussein Al Mahmoudi, Executive Director of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, gave a brief presentation on the park’s history, growth and current status.

The meeting witnessed discussions about developing and implementing new strategies to enhance the complex’s role in supporting the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah and its goals aimed at consolidating its position and global leadership in the field of sustainable technology, innovation, research and development.

The Council reviewed plans to create and implement key strategies to unleash the complex’s capabilities and enhance its role in supporting Sharjah’s efforts and its ambitious vision to become a global leader in sustainable technology, innovation, research and development.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi said: “This meeting comes at a time when efforts are being made to enhance the size of the complex’s contribution to consolidating Sharjah’s position as a center for research and development, advanced technology and industry in the region, and our diverse board of directors, with its members’ unique skills and experience in industry, government and academia. He has a strong position to help move the complex forward, and I am pleased to continue working alongside each of them as we plan the next phase of ambitions and aspirations to develop the complex and bring it to advanced levels. I look forward to meeting the members of the Board of Directors again in the future to follow up on the fruitful and meaningful discussions that we had.”

For his part, His Excellency Hussein Al Mahmoudi said: “The Board of Directors meeting served as a starting point for putting into effect our updated plan, which focuses on empowering innovative startups driven by sustainability and green technologies. We are at the forefront of Sharjah’s vision to be a center for research-based innovation, and the recommendations of the Board of Directors will enable us to enhance Our position as one of the most dynamic innovation ecosystems in the region.”

The meeting, which was chaired by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Al Waleed bin Talal, founder and CEO of KBW Ventures, Sheikh Dr. Majid Al Qasimi, partner and founder of Soma Matter, Abdul Aziz Basem Al Loughani, CEO of Floward, and Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Muhairi, Chairman Sharjah Health Authority, Chairman of Sharjah Healthcare City, Adel Abdullah Ali, CEO of Air Arabia Group, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Executive Director of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, expert in global digital transformation, Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, and Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, Director. Executive Director of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO of Bee’ah Group, Mudathir Sheikha, founder and CEO of Karim, Najla Ahmed Al Midfa, Executive Director of the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), Samer Salim Al Sayegh, Chairman of the National Paints Factories Group Ltd., and Dr. Todd Laursen, Director of the American University of Sharjah.

The Board of Directors reviewed the basic pillars of the complex’s program for sustainability, environmental technology, digitization (artificial intelligence, big data, analytics, Internet of Things), healthcare (medical devices and hospital automation), and advanced manufacturing (targeting aviation, automobiles, design and engineering).

The Board of Directors also reviewed the performance of Al Shaqa Innovation Complex over the past year and expressed its satisfaction with its success in consolidating its position as one of the most vibrant innovation centers in the region with the presence of more than 6,000 companies and startups in innovative projects and new technologies.

The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park is one of the fastest growing technology parks in the region, which enhances its role as a major player in shaping the future of research and technology. The park also leads an innovation ecosystem that encourages research and development and supports institutional activity through tripartite cooperation between government and private sectors and academia.

The complex project provides an environment conducive to creativity and innovation by creating a sustainable complex with world-class infrastructure and services to enhance the position of the Emirate of Sharjah as a global destination for research and technology.
