"Supreme Council for Tunisian Elections" Emphasizes the need for nomination procedures and conditions to be consistent with the Constitution and the law

   The head of the Tunisian Supreme Elections Authority, Farouk Bouaskar, stressed the need for the regulatory decisions of the authority related to the electoral process in general, especially regulating the procedures and conditions for running for elections, to be in conformity with the constitution as the highest text in the pyramid of legal texts, in addition to their conformity with the electoral law.

 

Boaskar pointed out – during the evaluation work sessions held by the Commission’s Council with various central departments today, Monday – to the sensitivity of the tasks of the Central Department of Legal Affairs in monitoring the electoral campaign, and the high legal competence and full commitment that this role requires. With impartiality and preserving professional secrecy.

The head of the Tunisian Supreme Elections Commission pointed out that the supervisory work of the Central Department for Legal Affairs and Campaign Monitoring will not be limited to the electoral campaign period, but will begin from the announcement of the issuance of preparations for the upcoming elections, based on what he is authorized to do. The Constitution and the law grant regulatory authority and a general mandate to the Commission in the electoral field.

He stressed the keenness of the Commission’s Council to organize fair and transparent elections free of all manifestations of corrupt political money or the influence of associations or the media on the free and conscious will of voters and to confront all forms of corruption. Forms of insult, defamation, broadcasting fake news, and applying the law to everyone without discrimination or exception.
