The European Commission has launched a second investigation into the online platform TikTok. As follows from a message published on the EC website on Monday, April 22, the investigation is designed to “assess whether the company may have violated the Digital Services Act (DSA) when launching TikTok Lite in France and Spain.” About it reports “German Wave”.

The reason for the investigation was a feature of the TikTok Lite app that allows users to earn points. According to the European Commission, this reward system was launched “without first thoroughly assessing the risks it entails. In particular, we are talking about the risks associated with the addictive effect.”

On April 17, the European Commission requested a risk assessment report from TikTok for TikTok Lite. The company had 24 hours to provide the regulator with documents, but did not do so. TikTok now has 24 hours to provide a risk assessment report and until May 3 to hand over other requested information.

If TikTok does not comply with this condition, the EC may impose fines or suspend the TikTok Lite rewards program in the EU.
