Washington school shooting: Students in lockdown at William Wiley Elementary as police rush to the scene

A shooting at an elementary school in Washington state elementary during dismissal has put the school on lockdown.

At least one adult woman has reportedly been shot and killed, according to the Tri-City Herald citing a police dispatch. 

The school district in Richland, Washington sent out an alert to parents that confirmed a shooting at William Wiley Elementary in West Richland.

‘The perpetrator is still at large,’ they wrote, adding that any students still on campus were sent into a secure area, even those who were getting set to depart on the school bus.

‘Students and staff at our schools have been moved inside the buildings and place into a critical lockdown.’

‘If students were loaded on buses but still at the school, they were moved into the school building. We will update you once we have more information.’

Richland Police confirmed in a Facebook post that they were headed to the scene Monday afternoon.

‘There is an active incident in the area of William Wiley Elementary and South Highlands Blvd,’ they wrote. 

‘Please stay clear of the area. We will post updates as they become available.’
