Shopper exposes massive price difference after doing her weekly supermarket trip to both Coles and Aldi: ‘Truly unbelievable’

An Australian shopper has exposed the massive price difference she experienced after shopping at both Aldi and Coles.

Mum Lidia always shops at Aldi first to buy most of the items on her grocery list, before visiting Coles to grab a few extra products.

On her most recent trip, her enormous Aldi haul of more than 35 items cost $255.

When she went to Coles to pick up few additional items, including bread, carrots and tuna, she expected a small bill – but was alarmed to find herself spending $78.

‘I just find it so interesting. I actually can’t believe the price gouging. It’s disgusting and shame on Coles and Woolies for making people have to do this. Good on you Aldi,’ Lidia said in a now-viral TikTok video.

Lidia ‘big shop’ from Aldi included fresh fruit, vegetables, canned food, frozen food, conditioner and drain cleaner.

The $255 haul consisted of three different types of cheese, a bag of avocados, mince meat, three cucumbers, three tubs of yoghurt, one cauliflower, peas, frozen chips, two boxes of Plat-A-Pops paddle pops, sweet potato, apples, two onions, two lemons, a punnet of strawberries and raspberries.

She also bought muffins, hot cross buns, English muffins, red kidney beans, lentils, corn, taco seasoning, baby spinach and rocket, expresso capsules, grilled peppers, packets of chips for the children’s lunchboxes, rice, mushrooms and rice crackers.

‘This is enough to make me seven meals for the week… we’re trying to eat more vegetable-based meals and I already have some schnitzels frozen so we don’t need too much meat this week,’ she said.

Lidia described the price of her grocery haul as ‘incredible’ – before sharing her comparatively small shop from Coles.

In comparison, at Coles she bought three loaves of home-brand bread, kabana, miniature wraps, cabbage, tinned tuna, dark soy sauce, carrots, noodles, sauce and bean sprouts.

‘This small, tiny section was $78!’ she said while pointing to the items.

The comparison left her flabbergasted and she recorded a video to encourage others to shop at Aldi first too.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for a comment.

The short video has since been viewed a staggering 1.5 million times, and others said they too shop at Aldi to save money.

‘You don’t realise how ripped off you are shopping at Woolies and Coles until you go to Aldi!’ one customer wrote.

‘Aldi is amazing. It’s my go-to shop and has better food anyway,’ another said.

‘Went to Aldi last week, bought a week’s worth of food for $95. Thirty items. Went to Coles to buy five items: $45. Crazy,’ a third wrote.

‘So true, I was scared to buy veg because everyone is complaining that it’s so expensive. I went to Aldi and got a whole cauliflower, two potatoes, a tomato and a jar of minced garlic for just over $7,’ another added.

However, other customers have had a different experience.

‘I did my first Aldi shop last week, it was only $10 cheaper than our normal shop,’ one person claimed.

Another complained about the quality of the produce, saying: ‘Every time I buy fruit from Aldi it’s gone bad within 24 hours.’

‘Try living in Tassie with no Aldi as an option. We are all poor,’ a third said.
