7% growth in tourism revenues in Ajman in the first quarter

Ajman, May 4, 2024: The first quarter of 2024 recorded a 7% increase in total tourism revenues in Ajman, as a result of a 3% increase in occupancy and a 9% increase in the number of visitors, compared to the same period in 2023. The average length of hotel stay also increased by 5%, according to what was stated in the statement of the Ajman Tourism Development Department issued today on the eve of announcing its participation in the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition, which will be held from May 6 to 9, 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Center, with the aim of showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ajman and the agenda of events. Activities, diverse tourism offers, and the remarkable growth path of the tourism sector, in addition to the search for strategic partners to enhance cooperation and enhance Ajman’s position as a leading destination in global tourism.

In 2023, October recorded a 5% increase in tourism activity, resulting in a significant 11% increase in the number of visitors. This increase in occupancy rates contributed to a 5% increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR), and accordingly, overall revenue recorded an 11% increase year-on-year.”

The number of international arrivals to Ajman witnessed a significant increase of 29% in 2023, compared to 2022, with the percentage of international visitors reaching 60% of the total visitors.

The visitor profile indicates the presence of a large percentage of young travelers between 19 and 35 years old, as well as middle-aged travelers between 36 and 55 years old, who together constitute about 70% of the total tourists in Ajman.

Data on visits reveal that entertainment remains the main motivation for visiting Ajman, representing about 70% of total arrivals. Furthermore, Ajman’s export markets display a diverse landscape, with the GCC countries, the Russian Federation, India, the United Kingdom, and Egypt featuring prominently among the top international feeder markets.

On the other hand, the UAE (domestic market) remains a key contributor, catering to various categories of tourism, including staycations, corporate business, and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions activities.

His Excellency Mahmoud Khalil Al Hashemi, Director General of the Ajman Tourism Development Department, stressed the importance of building new partnerships during the Arabian Travel Market 2024.

He said: “Arabian Travel Market 2024 represents a pivotal moment for the Emirate of Ajman as we unveil our commitment to Ajman Vision 2030. We are committed to showcasing Ajman’s culture, rich heritage and unique hospitality, in accordance with our strategic goals of developing sustainable tourism.”

Al Hashemi added: “Our participation confirms our strong commercial perspective and our commitment to providing exceptional tourism offers by offering a variety of events, activities and experiences that embody the unique charm of Ajman and leave a distinctive impact. By building new partnerships, we aim to strengthen our tourism sector and contribute significantly to economic growth.” And the cultural enrichment of Ajman.”
