General Assembly "Emirati publishers" She appreciates Bodour Al Qasimi’s support for the publishing sector

Sharjah, 6 May / WAM / Emirati publishers appreciated the active role of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and Honorary President of the Emirates Publishers Association, in advancing the publishing sector in the UAE and her qualitative initiatives to support the Emirati publisher.

This came during the seventh regular general assembly meeting of the Emirates Publishers Association, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors and the Executive Office of the Association, and representatives of the Ministry of Community Development, in addition to the Association’s members of publishers, some of whom participated in person and others remotely.

Emirati writer and publisher Amira Boukadra, co-founder of Ghaf Library and Publications, said: “From this platform, I am pleased to extend my thanks and gratitude to Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi for her great efforts to advance the publishing industry and support publishers in the UAE. Following the Ministry’s representative’s announcement that a quorum had been achieved, the assembly’s work began and the draft budget for the current year was approved, and activities programs and its work plan for the year 2024 were discussed, including workshops, sessions, events, and anticipated participation in local and international book fairs aimed at supporting local publishers and enhancing their presence on the publishing scene. Globalism.

The meeting highlighted the Board of Directors’ report on the work of the year ending 2023 and discussed the ideas and proposals of the participating publishers on ways to develop the publishing sector in the United Arab Emirates, raise it to global levels, and consolidate its effective contribution to sustainable cultural, social, and economic development in the country.

The meeting coincided with the association’s participation in a number of leading cultural events in the country, including the activities of the 33rd edition of the “Abu Dhabi International Book Fair,” through an intensive program that included holding sessions for buying and selling rights with a number of international publishers from Cyprus, China, Turkey, and India, in addition to participating In dialogue sessions on book translation, artificial intelligence in publishing, and the buying and selling of book publishing and translation rights.

As part of the association’s commitment to supporting the children’s literature industry in the Emirates and the region, it participated in the activities of the 15th edition of the “Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival,” organized by the Sharjah Book Authority under the slogan “Be the Hero of Your Story,” which continues until May 12 at the Expo Center Sharjah. This is done by organizing a number of meetings with local and international publishers involved in children’s literature who are participating in the festival to discuss ways of cooperation to enhance the presence of Emirati books on the global cultural scene.

The association works within a strategic plan aimed at serving and developing the publishing sector in the UAE and advancing it, caring for workers in the publishing sector in the country, and improving the conditions of the profession and its laws in coordination and cooperation with the authorities concerned with publishing inside and outside the country.
