"IATA": 13.8% growth in demand for air travel globally during March

Geneva, 6 May / WAM / The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed today that the total demand for travel globally increased by 13.8% during last March compared to the same month last year.

Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, said that the global market is witnessing a strong demand for travel, and all indicators confirm the continued demand, reaching its peak summer and summer in the northern hemisphere.

He called for the importance of providing the necessary capacity to meet demand levels and provide a comfortable travel experience for travelers by taking rapid measures to address supply chain challenges, and equipping airports and air traffic management with a full crew to work with the best possible efficiency.”

According to the IATA report, airlines in Asia and the Pacific maintained their leading position, recording a 38.5% year-on-year increase in travel demand.

He explained that the carrying capacity increased by 37.4% on an annual basis and the load factor increased to 85.6%, which is the highest among all regions.

He noted that European airlines recorded an increase of 11.6% on an annual basis in travel demand, while capacity increased by 11.4% on an annual basis, while airlines in the Middle East recorded an increase of 10.8% on an annual basis in travel demand… and companies achieved Aviation in North America: A 14.5% year-on-year increase in travel demand… with capacity rising by 14.8% year-on-year.

The report indicated that Latin American airlines recorded an increase of 19.7% year-on-year in travel demand, while African airlines achieved an increase of 8.1% year-on-year as well, with capacity rising by 11% year-on-year.
