Urgent.. Biden makes a phone call to Netanyahu regarding Rafah

On Monday, US President Joe Biden made phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the military operation in Rafah.

Media sources explained that the conversation between Biden and Netanyahu lasted for nearly half an hour.

The White House announced that this call came against the backdrop of the army’s invitation. The Israelis asked the Palestinians to evacuate east of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Israel’s announcement comes despite Washington’s emphasis that it does not support a land invasion of Rafah without an integrated plan to secure civilians sheltering in the city, and despite the ongoing ceasefire talks with Hamas. A spokesman for the US National Security Council told Agence France-Presse: “We clearly told the Israeli government our opinion about a major ground invasion of Rafah, and the president will speak with the prime minister today.” He added, “We still believe that an agreement on the process of releasing the hostages is the best way to preserve the lives of the hostages and avoid the invasion of Rafah, where more than a million people have taken refuge.”

The Israeli army called on Monday residents of areas east of Rafah, in the far south of Gaza, to “immediately evacuate.” And heading towards the center of the Strip, in light of the threat of launching a ground attack on the densely populated city.
