CEO of SNCF replaced after the Olympics: "He is a real railway worker who knew how to manage the company"declares Unsa about Jean-Pierre Farandou

“He’s a real railway worker who knew how to manage the company”declared Tuesday May 7 on franceinfo Didier Mathis, secretary general of Unsa Ferroviaire, about Jean-Pierre Farandou, CEO of SNCF who will not be renewed for a second term at the head of the group.

Jean-Pierre Farandou – who was interviewed on Tuesday in the Senate – will therefore not be renewed in his functions at the end of his mandate on May 13 but he will extend the time of the Paris Games. This announcement comes in the midst of controversy surrounding an agreement negotiated with the unions on the end of careers at SNCF and accused of circumventing pension reform. The total cost of this agreement – which offers drivers and controllers the possibility of no longer working from 15 or even 18 months before their retirement date while remaining paid at 75% of their salary excluding bonus – is estimated at 35 million euros per year.

Didier Mathis believes that this government decision is based on “more or less fallacious reasons”. He claims that unlike other agreements signed in other companies, this one “signed at SNCF only concerns the company’s accounts. Taxpayers will not be involved in this agreement”. He assures, “Jean-Pierre Farandou pays for the decisions of politicians who ride the wave during election periods”.

The trade unionist would have liked the current CEO to stay in his position “because his mandate is positive” and “the company is back in the green since he arrived”. In terms of social dialogue, “we signed several agreements with him,” he recalls.
